4.  University of ChicagoÕs Summer Programs for High School Students

Dates: Session 1 – Summer 2014;   Session 2 – Summer 2014   You must be able to attend all dates; Most classes run one session but check website

Stipend: None

5.  The Academy of Applied Sciences and Loyola University Chicago - The Research and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (REAP)

Dates:  Projects typically begin at the end of June or beginning of July, and end in early-mid August, but scheduling is somewhat flexible.  Students can expect to spend approximately 25-30 hours on campus each week as part of this program. 

Stipend: $1200 (summer 2013)

Topic:  Biology & Chemistry - REAP is looking for current high school students of exceptional academic merit who are considering a career in science or science related areas. Successful applicants to REAP will spend a summer at Loyola working in a close relationship with one of our top scientists on an ongoing research project.

6.  DNA Residency for High School Students at the Field Museum

Dates: Must commit to weekdays, June 23-August 1, 2014 8:30 am-3:30 pm program times and dates (excluding July 4).

Stipend:  Participants will receive a stipend, a CTA pass or parking vouchers, and a one-year family membership to the Field Museum.

Topic:  Two high school students, an educator, and one Field Museum scientist will form a team that conducts basic research during a five-week internship program. All participants will be trained in molecular biology laboratory methods and equipment used in Field MuseumÕs Pritzker Lab/Rice DNA Discovery Center.

7.  Science Minors at the Museum of Science and Industry

Dates:  Throughout the year

Stipend: None, can get service learning hours

Topic: The Science Minors youth development program lets teens learn about science, make friends, meet science professionals and conduct experiments with Museum guests while fulfilling service learning hours.

Topic:  The six-week Summer Enrichment Program at Chicago State University is designed for high school freshman, sophomores, juniors and rising seniors who have an interest in the health professions. There are different courses for different age groups.

11.  Nasa All-Stars Mentor Summer Program at the University of Chicago

Dates:  July 14 - August 1, 2014, Monday - Thursday, 9 am - 4 pm

Stipend: Technology to keep after the program concludes if you have attended all sessions.

Topic:  Astronomy – Electromagnetic Spectrum; Optical, Ultraviolet, X-Ray and Gamma Ray
