2. Nasa All-Stars Mentor Summer Program at the University of
Chicago
Dates: July 14 – August 1, 2014 Monday - Thursday, 9-4
Stipend: None but you do get
some kind of personal computing technology to keep after the program, a family membership to Adler Planetarium and a CTA transit card
Topic: Astronomy – Electromagnetic
Spectrum; Optical, Ultraviolet, X-Ray and Gamma Ray
Stories related to these
topics and the historical context of the discovery of these types of light, the
scientists who study these types of light, the tools used to study these types
of light, and the impact these types of light have on astronomy. Astronomy
research will be done using the Sloan Digital Sky Survey data.

your own spacecraft

5. The Academy of Applied Sciences and Loyola University Chicago - The Research and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (REAP)
Dates:
Projects typically begin at the end of June or beginning of July, and
end in early-mid August, but scheduling is somewhat flexible. Students can expect to spend
approximately 25-30 hours on campus each week as part of this program.
Stipend: $1200
Topic:
Biology & Chemistry - REAP is looking for current high school
students of exceptional academic merit who are considering a career in science
or science related areas. Successful applicants to REAP will spend a summer at
Loyola working in a close relationship with one of our top scientists on an
ongoing research project.

6. DNA
Residency for High School Students at the Field Museum
Dates: Must commit to weekdays, July 1-August 2, 2013 8:30 am-3:30 pm program
times and dates (excluding July 4).
Stipend:
Participants will receive a stipend, a CTA pass
or parking vouchers, and a one-year family membership to the Field Museum.
Topic: Two high school students, an educator,
and one Field Museum scientist will form a team that conducts basic research
during a five-week internship program. All participants will be trained in
molecular biology laboratory methods and equipment used in Field MuseumÕs
Pritzker Lab/Rice DNA Discovery Center.

10. Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago
Dates: The summer program runs from June through August 2013. Volunteers must be 16 or older by June 1st to apply. Summer volunteers will commit to 10 consecutive weeks of volunteering once a week. Shifts are three hours during the weekday, on the same day and at the same time every week.
Topic: Summer volunteering is very popular at Lurie ChildrenÕs! We are grateful for the number of generous individuals who want to help during summer hours, but will be unable to provide positions for everyone this year. From those who complete the application process, we will randomly select candidates to be interviewed for placement. All applicants will be notified of their random selection status by April 30, 2013.

12. 2013 Illinois Summer Research Academy for High School Students - held on the campus of Illinois State University (ISU)
Dates: June 23-28, 2013
Topic: The Illinois Summer Research Academy provides high school freshman, sophomores, and juniors the opportunity to spend a week with ISU professors and other high school students from across Illinois working on various hands-on research projects. Students are introduced to current research projects ISU faculty are working on and are exposed to the tools and techniques that are being used to accomplish this research. Students then make contributions to these research projects and/or work on their own research projects with their peers.

WHSP offers three different acadmies thorughout the year: the Oncofertility Saturday Academy, Infectious Disease Summer Academy, and Physical Science Academy.
